When I first started out teaching piano I was 18 and had absolutely no idea where to begin! After years of trial and error, I can still only say that my teaching has improved a little.
So why was I progressing so slowly?
As I pondered this question, I thought of the following:
Private instrumental teachers are often isolated and don't have regular opportunities to engage with others in the same profession to develop their practice
We often default to teaching students in the same way we were taught and struggle to differentiate our teaching for different learning styles
We simply don't have the time to experiment with every method out there one-at-a-time until we find something that best suits our philosophy and pedagogy
For these reasons, I created this forum so that instrumental teachers - whether just starting out or a veteran in the industry - can pool together resources and discuss how we can help each other develop our teaching quality.
DISCLAIMER:
This forum was created with Australian instrumental teachers in mind, as it focuses a lot on resources for Australian examinations, but basic principles and other material on this site can still be equally as applicable in other parts of the world.
